Steel Match is a competition

• The CGC 22lr Rim-fire Steel match is conducted under the “cold range” policy.

Absolutely no loaded firearms, concealed, open carry or in a range bag, are permitted during the match. Please leave your loaded firearm in your vehicle or un-load your firearm in one of the public shooting bays and put your un-loaded firearm in your range bag.

• Safety is of upmost importance.

The sport should remain safe and enjoyable for all who participate. Maximum safety requirements for both competitors and spectators must be maintained. All firearms must be handled in a safe manner at all times. Firearms must be cased, or bagged. When un-casing your firearm make sure the muzzle of your firearm is pointed downrange at all times. Firearms are not permitted in a holster. Do not sweep any part of your body while you are handling a firearm. CGC will provide a rifle rack for competitors to place their rifles after un-casing. When retrieving your rifle please keep the muzzle pointed vertical until you reach the shooting box and at that time please keep muzzle pointed down range. When retrieving your rifle from the rifle rack do not cover the muzzle of your rifle with any part of your body.

Trigger finger will be clearly off the trigger and outside of the trigger guard until sights are on the steel targets and you are engaging the steel targets.

You are only permitted to handle your firearm in the designated safety area or under direct supervision of a Range Officer. Failure to do so will result in a competitor being disqualified (DQ) from the match. Safety area is located in the expansion bay. The safety area is defined by two tables with a sign that reads “safety area” and there is a PVC fault line around the safety area. In the safety area you are allowed to handle your firearm or make necessary adjustments or repairs. In the safety area you are not allowed to handle any ammunition. Handling ammunition in the safety area will result in the competitor being disqualified (DQ) from the match.

The following are some common safety infractions for a competitor being disqualified from a match.

Sweeping any part of their body while handling their firearm

Trigger finger on the trigger and not clearly outside of the trigger guard when not actually engaging the steel targets

Dropping a firearm at any time

Unsportsmanlike conduct

Handling ammunition in the designated safety area

Failure to follow the range commands

Carrying a loaded firearm concealed or open

Breaking the 180 degree rule

Unsportsmanlike conduct by any competitor will result in disqualification from the match

Competitors are solely responsible for all equipment and ammunition they bring to a match. No suppressed or full automatic firearms allowed. No 17 HMR firearms allowed. All firearms are to safely use .22 LR ammunition. There will be no re-shoots for firearm and ammunition malfunctions. Each person is responsible for their equipment to function properly.

Experienced shooters should set good examples for others to follow.

The following firearm divisions will be recognized:

1. Rifle iron sight
2. Rifle optics

It is mandatory that each competitor have a minimum of 3 magazines per firearm for the match. Competitors are allowed to load as many rounds as they want in each magazine.

Course of Fire:

Each competitor will shoot each course of fire 3 times. So there will be 3 strings of fire per stage. The competitor’s two best out of three times will count for score.

This format is based solely on “time”. A shot timer will be used to record the time for each string of fire. In the case of a timer malfunction the competitor will be required to re-shoot the string of fire.

Penalties:

Penalties will be assessed as follows:

+2 seconds for each miss

+2 seconds for “creeping” (false start)

+4 seconds for not engaging the STOP plate last

Stages:

Stages will consist of 5-6 steel plates. Competitors are allowed to shoot the plates in any order they wish. One plate will be designated as a STOP plate (stop plate will be a different color from the other plates) and the STOP plate must be engaged LAST. Each competitor will shoot each string of fire from a shooting box.

Range commands will be as followed:

1. Shooter retrieve your firearm: ( muzzle of rifle vertical until you get to the shooting box, when in the shooting box muzzle must be pointed down range) (have all 3 magazines with you) and proceed to the shooting box.
2. Shooter, load and make ready: (on this command proceed to load your firearm and assume the proper start position (start position is muzzle of firearm touching top of barrel).
3. Stand by: followed by a “beep” from the shot timer (at that time you will engage the steel plates).
4. At the end of the first two strings of fire you will be instructed to stay “hot” and load for your next string if necessary.
5. Un-load and show clear: At the completion of the third string of fire you will be instructed to un-load and show clear (remove magazine and eject live round or spent casing) if clear (you will let the slide or action go back into battery)
6. The last command will be to case your pistol or rifle or place your rifle back (muzzle vertical) in the rifle rack provided.

Competitors will help paint the steel plates after each shooter completes their 3 strings of fire.
