What is a Steel Match?
The Steel Challenge Match, the largest of the matches, has a long history which draws top shooters from a broad spectrum of shooting sports, including USPSA, IDPA, SASS, GSSF and others.

The match is highly spectator-friendly and the competition is easy to understand – it is all about the speed. And by maintaining consistent challenges from year to year, the competition lends itself to the notion of setting – and breaking – speed records, which greatly adds to the excitement for shooters.

Steel shooting offers a port of entry to the shooting sports that is far less intimidating than practical shooting. Steel shooting provides an excellent starting place for young or beginning shooters. It also provides a soft way for those who have begun to suffer the problems associated with ageing a vehicle to remain involved in the shooting sports. All this provides an alternative for those who might otherwise be lost to shooting.
What is the Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA)?
The Steel Challenge Shooting Association is the membership organization chartered to grow and extend “speed-steel” shooting competition at the club level. It is the vehicle used to spread the “gospel” of steel shooting. The vision is to build the SCSA into a network of affiliate clubs and individual members much as USPSA is structured.

Steel Match Overview:

1. Each competitor will shoot four courses of fire.
2. Each competitor will shoot four strings of fire.
3. 20 competitors (2 squads of 10 ea.)
4. Scoring is based on time. The competitor who shoots all of the steel plates the fastest and in correct order wins the match.
5. Stage set-up design will change monthly and will be dictated by the person in charge of stage set-up.
6. No restrictions on number of rounds per magazine.
7. Start position, low ready with elbows touching the ribcage and the muzzle perpendicular to the back-stop.
8. Trigger finger is clearly outside of the trigger guard straight, stiff, and ridged along the frame of the firearm until sight are on target.
9. Single Action firearms are required to engage the safety during the make ready command. Double Action/Single Action firearms are required to de-cock at the make ready command.

Match Rules:

1. All firearms must be in a safe working condition.
2. All firearms must be bagged or cased with a chamber flag inserted into the barrel.
3. Eye protection and hearing protection are required always while on the range.
4. Competitors may only handle their firearm under the direct supervision of a Range Safety Officer. The only place where a competitor may handle their firearm off the line is in the designated safety area located in the expansion bay.
5. No concealed carry or open carry, loaded or un-loaded, firearms are allowed on any competitor during the match.

Requirements:

1. All competitors are required to purchase Inceptor frangible ammunition from CGC. No exceptions.
2. Calibers allowed: Any caliber CGC has in stock of Inceptor frangible ammunition.
3. All competitors must have a minimum of 4 magazines for semi-automatic pistols or 4 moon-clip speed loaders for a revolver. No exceptions.
4. Holsters are not allowed. All competitors will have their firearm bagged or cased with a chamber flag in the barrel of the firearm.
5. Competitors are required to help with setup, scoring, painting steel, and tear-down.
